Backbends are first attitudinal, and they both require and bestow an open heart. This practice focuses on the inner stance of back bending and heart opening, using the pranic fullness of the chest and upper back to facilitate opening the chest and upper back. Class moves towards dwi pada viparita dandasana (or urdhva dhanurasana), includes some playful bilateral work, and closes with a thorough, seated cool down. A block is needed, and a strap will be helpful, especially if you're tight in your shoulders and arms.
