Crossing both the pelvis and the knees, happy hamstrings are both long and strong, but as a long muscle group it's easy to forget to train them in their shortest position. Without good knee flexion, the often overactive quadriceps can take over and create unbalanced tension. In this basics class we will focus on creating a base level of strength in their shortest position, and release some of the tension in the front of the thighs. if you've never trained your hamstrings in this position it can sometimes be a little cramp-y, if that happens, just back off the intensity a little and breathe into it; in time it will become easier to work with these tissues.
Prop: wall, blanket + a floor to slide on (optional)
Common compensation: Pelvis tilting forward (anteriorly), thigh lifting towards chest into hip flexion
